The objective of this internship is to assist the high school teacher in integrating Material Science related curricula in the high school teacher's physics and/or chemistry classes. The teachers spend 4 weeks developing a laboratory experiment, and/or courseware that illustrate some fundamental principles of Material Science. The teachers will have access to facilities and faculty at CMU to help develop their curriculum. After the completion of the internship and submission of a final report on the project, the teachers involved will be awarded 120 hours of ACT 48 credit (PA). The teachers will be awarded a $6000 stipend for their work. In addition, the teacher will have a $1000 budget for materials to complete the laboratory and/or courseware activity, and an additional $1000 for the following year to replenish any expendables as needed. All applications are to be received prior to March 1 of the year of participation, in order for a final decision to be made by the end of March.
