Talk to the Professor is an activity sponsored by the Department of Material Science and Engineering and the NSF-sponsered Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The purpose of this activity to enhance and enrich the secondary student's education enabling these students interaction with a professor in the science community whose expertise is the topic of discussion. The format is that of a "Question and Answer" setting. Prior to the meeting, the classroom teacher may want to acquaint the students on the topic to be discussed; however, once the discussion commences, it is entirely students and professors "talking science". The discussion length is limited to a class period (45min-1hr Max) and telecasted via the internet by IP connections. Upon completion of the activity, students and professors are able to resume their normal daily schedule without any inconvience.
Sessions are scheduled for during the school year, generally Oct - April.
