International Activities with German Partner Organization IRTG 1524

Research
Triangle MRSEC investigators have
numerous ( >30) international research collaborations with scientists
in Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, Russia, China and Korea.  Most prominent among these interactions is
our partnership with the International Research Training Group (IRTG 1524) in
Self Assembly of Soft Matter near Interfaces , a program spearheaded by the
Technical University of Berlin. This past year a team of seven  MRSEC investigators traveled to Berlin to
participate in the on-site evaluation of the IRTG  which was seeking renewed funding from the
DFG. This application was ultimately successful and is already enhancing
opportunities for RT-MRSEC investigators and Fellows to collaborate with our
German colleagues and participate in student exchanges.  The annual meeting of the IRTG held last  September in New Bern, North Carolina
brought  together  > 70
faculty and graduate students from the US  and Germany , including a large RT-MRSEC
contingent, to discuss the latest research in soft matter. IRTG will hold an
international summer school this August in Boston in cooperation with RT-MRSEC.
